Lent is a season in the Church year we set aside to prepare ourselves to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection on Easter Sunday. We prepare ourselves by taking 40 days to reflect on our sin, mourn and repent. Lent sounds like a big downer, but ask anyone who’s participated and you’ll find it’s an unforgettable experience.

This year, our church is doing a series called American Gods. (We took the name from the outstanding Neil Gaiman book of the same name.)

We’ll explore the various aspects of our American culture that battle with God for worship in our lives. We’ll identify the idols we worship – sometimes unknowingly. We’ll mourn what these false gods cost us and we’ll repent.

I’m also going to do something new for Lent this year. I’m writing a 40-Day e-Devotional.

That’s right. An e-Devotional. Unlike a  traditional devotional, this will be delivered to your inbox every morning. All you have to do is sign up. Each day, you’ll get a scripture, a short reflection, a prayer and a practice for that day.

And I invited some friends to help me out, so you’ll be hearing from more than just me!

These devotionals won’t be on my blog. So this also won’t be sent to you if you’re on my blog email list.

I don’t want to spam anyone. This is a special project I’m working on just for those who want to sign up.

Will you join me in observing Lent? Sign up below and you will get your first eDevotional on Ash Wednesday, March 5. I hope you’ll join me on this journey. And I hope you share what God is teaching you. On social media, we’ll use #LentIdols to talk about what we’re learning together.

Thanks for signing up. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us this Lenten season!
