The scariest monsters are those that come from within!

The Advocate

Winds of Change

None of us likes to feel put on the spot, singled out or attacked. That's part of what makes sharing our faith so scary - who knows how people are going to react! But before Jesus left us, he promised the Holy Spirit would be our Advocate. What does that mean? And how does the Spirit advocate for us in the world?

From Series: "Winds of Change"

We're stuck inside. Life feels still, even stale. We long for the world as it was only a couple of months ago. And yet, as on that first Easter day, Jesus is still at work. God is on the move, working newness even in locked rooms. The Holy Spirit is the breath of fresh air we need. How can we learn to spot the Spirit at work around us and within us?

This is the season of the year when people start to think about monsters – ghosts and goblins and things that go bump in the night. We normally don’t think of monsters having anything to do with the Church, but we’d be wrong. The reason people tell monster stories is that monsters are a safe way to talk about things we’re not ready to admit about ourselves. We don’t want to see ourselves as selfish, unforgiving, ill-tempered. So we tell stories. We create monsters.
