Transformation 2021

Church of Theseus

Too often, faith is reduced to an intellectual exercise. But Jesus pressed for transformation, change so dramatic it was described as 'resurrection' or 'rebirth'. What does it look like for us to pursue this sort of new life here at Catalyst in the coming year?

From Series: "Church of Theseus"

An ancient Greek thought experiment asks us to imagine a ship that, over the years, has every plank and mast replaced. When there's no more original wood left, is it the same ship? Catalyst has changed a lot over the last decade. Despite all the changes, what defines us as a church? And what does that mean for our future?

Too often, we think faith is about winning – getting our way in the culture or in our homes. But during Lent, we’ll trace the human journey through the Old Testament and see that getting what we want never works out like we hope. We’ll see how Jesus enters into our failure and becomes a loser just like us. Somehow, his failure is good news for us.

It turns out God is for losers, which is good news for all us failures.
