If You Want to Go, You Have to Leave

What to Expect When We\'re Expecting

Becoming the people God calls us to be is a journey of discovery. A journey requires that we change, which can be scary, painful and difficult. The prophet Malachi offers words of hope: that even though the change is difficult, God is with us, shaping us into the people who will be ready to live in the future God is preparing us for.

From Series: "What to Expect When We're Expecting"

The future can be a scary thing – especially because it doesn’t come with a roadmap. But when God calls us, we rarely get all the details. How do we move forward faithfully when we don’t know where we’re going? Advent invites us to anticipate well, to look to our fathers and mothers as they longed for God’s rescue. Their stories teach us how to hope well and move forward faithfully.

Amos pictures God as a lion, roaring God’s judgment from Mt. Zion. We don’t like to think of God as a judge. But the biblical picture of God as judge is founded in God’s love as our Father in Heaven. We can hear God’s judgment as words as a firm love calling us to be whole.
